John Cain
I
started taking photographs in 1966 and always brought
the best equipment that I could afford - or justify. In
the late 70s and early 80s I had a total of 5 pictures
shown on T.V. including motor bike racing, animal pictures
of London Zoo, abstract views, sunset/water scene and
won a T.V. competition.
Since
1975 I have been a founder member of 3 photographic societies
and became a member of the Royal Photographic Society
with the distinction of L.R.P.S. until approx. 1990 when
I discontinued my membership.
My
professional work as a technical writer and leading technical
illustrator in mechanical transmissions and off road earth
moving machinery took me naturally, into illustrating
fish and insects for the angling magazines. It was during
my keen interest in plants and drawing insects plus fish
(freshwater) that I started to take a keen interest in
nature close up and with it, the unlimited species in
their natural habitat.
As
a practising technical artist, it was also easy for me
to capture through my micro lens, the single colour or
multi colour abstracts / unusual visuals that were often
adjacent to the creature or plant head for example. So
from a 55 mm micro C/W extension tubes focusing at a quarter
of an inch I can go through to a 200/600 mm zoom covering
a wide range of outdoor subjects.
I
have so far given about 50 talks; lectures on basic easy
to understand photo techniques, understanding camera controls
and nature talks through the camera lens.
