Jim Brown
I
feel my love of landscape started when I was a boy, we
had a view of the Dublin mountains from our back garden
and I was fascinated by them and the old ruin on the top
which was known as the Hellfire Club. When I was five
I was given my first camera, a Kodak Brownie 127 and as
far as I can remember I have photographed most of my life.
I was never very pleased with the results so about six
years ago I decided to take a two year City and Guilds
exam, this gave me the technical knowledge I needed to
improve my photography and I had some success towards
the end of the exam when two of my images were published
by magazines. Most of my life I have lived and worked
in London but after finishing the exam and having started
to take photographs seriously, I decided that instead
of working in Building Maintenance (I ran a small business
in this field), photography was what I wanted to do for
the rest of my life. I had always wanted to move to the
country and three years ago moved to Dorset a county that
I had grown to know and love over the last twenty years.
I have had two exhibitions in London with my work published
many times and at present I am publishing a small collection
of greeting cards. Although I started photographing in
35mm I now only use a medium format camera and my images
are mainly landscapes but I also cover events such as
motocross, volleyball and aerial displays among others.
